Reception
EYFS Aims
At Bellfield Primary School's Reception we aim to have;
- Children who are happy, curious and engaged.
- Adults who nurture, value, help them to build relationship, are partners in play.
- Parents who work together, supportive, show mutual respect and for parents as partners in the child’s learning.
Our Bellfield Approach
Play is imperative in EYFS. The EYFS vision puts a child’s happiness and play first so that they can be curious and engage with learning. We take a child centred approach and let them lead their learning. Our staff "plan in the moment" and support pupils' learning through adult interactions - this supports developing "the characteristics of effective learning."
The classroom environment has a range of resources and areas that children can access all the time. The resources and the way they are organised remains constant throughout the year offering children a familiar environment in which they can develop sustained play, practice new skills and extend their ideas overtime. Continuous Provision is intended to support children’s play-based learning. Through Continuous Provision children can;
- Revisit, rehearse necessary skills
- Test out new ideas and learning
- Return to a line of enquiry that interest them.
- Access resources independently after adult support to restore self-esteem
- Develop executive functions and schemas.
- Act out role play that is troubling them
Whilst initially resources are perceived as ‘free play’ initially, through adult modelling and interactions their play becomes purposeful.
