Bellfield Curriculum
"Belonging, Believing, Together Achieving"
At Bellfield Primary School, our spiralling curriculum is built around the "Bellfield Big Ideas". These shape every child’s learning journey from Nursery to Year 6. These ideas give our curriculum a clear identity, a strong sense of purpose and a cohesive thread that runs through every subject, every year group and ensures our curriculum is purposeful, broad and balanced. Key learning and skills have been identified and carefully taught in a sequenced manner. We use the EYFS Framework and National Curriculum as our statutory documents, then adapt this to make learning relevant for our cohort.
The Big Ideas help us create a curriculum that is purposeful, memorable and deeply relevant to our community. They ensure that children revisit important concepts in age‑appropriate ways, developing deeper understanding as they move through the school.

Why These Big Ideas Matter
Our Big Ideas are informed by strong curriculum principles found in high‑quality educational research, the EYFS Framework and the National Curriculum:
-
Children learn more when knowledge is organised around meaningful concepts, not isolated topics
-
Revisiting ideas over time strengthens memory and deepens understanding
-
A coherent curriculum helps pupils make connections across subjects
-
Strong vocabulary and communication skills unlock learning in every area
-
Curiosity, creativity and personal development are essential for long‑term success
These principles ensure that our curriculum is not only academically ambitious but also rich in character development, cultural understanding and personal growth. The Big Ideas give Bellfield a curriculum that grows with the child.
